Ipanema Beach
To get to the Favela Vidigal, I had to walk nearly the entire length of Ipanema Beach. Don't worry. Great exercise and I loved the walk. The weather might have been a bit kinder, but you can't have it all. Off to the left you see a solitary building below the mountains, right by the water. That's the Sheraton. I needed to walk past it. The favela is visible on the hillside above. |
Someone sure had fun, weather be damned, and the skills to really take advantage of a nice empty beach |
Yup, a bootcamp set up. You can hardly think of a better place than this - except for the little beach in Botafogo maybe. |
Getting closer with still a long way to go |
Small clusters of hotel guests were out and the sun just started to make intermittent appearances. |
Turning the corner and about to start heading uphill toward the Sheraton and Vidigal |
The temperature. Not too bad and I was already acclimatised |
In love and oblivious to the world around them |
Appreciating the way I had come. |
Here I was, only a short distance to go |
Looking back from the Sheraton on the way back to Ipanema. This was the best view yet (and a very long way to go back to the Metro station). |
